Water Softener & Filtration in Cypress, TX

Cypress water quality depends on your MUD — and there are dozens. Hardness runs 150–200+ ppm, most areas use chloramines, and arsenic levels range from 2 to 5.66 ppb across different systems. We test YOUR water before recommending anything. Softeners from $2,965 installed.

"They tested our water and found completely different issues than what our neighbor had — turns out we're on different MUDs. Glad we didn't just guess."

Cypress Water Quality: It Depends on Your MUD

Cypress isn't served by a single water system. It's an unincorporated area split between two regional water authorities — WHCRWA (West Harris County) and NHCRWA (North Harris County) — and served by dozens of individual MUDs.

Some MUDs pull 100% groundwater from the Evangeline Aquifer. Others buy surface water from Lake Houston. Most blend both — and the ratios are shifting as subsidence regulations force MUDs toward more surface water (60% by 2025, 80% by 2035).

Your neighbor across the street may literally be on a different water system with different water quality. That's why we test before we recommend.

Water Quality Data — Typical Range Across Cypress MUDs

These are ranges based on four major Cypress MUD CCRs. Your actual water quality depends on which MUD serves your address.

What This Means

All four Cypress MUDs we analyzed meet EPA standards — but the profiles are dramatically different depending on where you live.

  • Hardness across all MUDs ranges from 100–220 ppm — enough to cause scale buildup in pipes, water heaters, and appliances everywhere in Cypress.
  • Chloramines vs. free chlorine is the biggest variable. Most WHCRWA-connected MUDs use chloramines — requiring catalytic carbon ($3,850 with softener). Some groundwater MUDs use free chlorine — standard carbon works ($3,450 with softener).
  • HAA5 at Bridgeland hit 47 ppb — that's 78% of the EPA limit and the highest we've seen across all our Houston-area research. TTHMs at Coles Crossing hit 56 ppb — 70% of the limit.
  • Arsenic was detected in every MUD — up to 5.66 ppb at Bridgeland (57% of EPA limit). The EPA requires special health advisory language above 5 ppb. RO is the best defense for drinking water.
  • PFAS detected at Copperfield — three compounds (PFBA, PFHxA, PFPeA) at low levels. Lithium at 20.9 ppb avg also detected — above the 10 µg/L health reference.

Water Quality by Subdivision

Here's what the actual lab reports show from four major Cypress communities. Your MUD determines everything — from what's in your water to what kind of filter you need.

Bridgeland (MUD 419/418)

Chloramines

Blended — WHCRWA surface + Evangeline wells

Hardness:150–180 ppm
Arsenic:5.66 ppb
TTHMs:34 ppb
HAA5:47 ppb
Highest HAA5 in Cypress. EPA arsenic advisory required.

Coles Crossing (MUD 364)

Free Chlorine

100% Groundwater — Evangeline Aquifer

Hardness:180–220 ppm
Arsenic:2.3–3.5 ppb
TTHMs:56 ppb
HAA5:6 ppb
Highest TTHMs at 70% of limit. Standard carbon works here.

Copperfield (MUD 208)

Chloramines

Blended — Evangeline GW + WHCRWA surface

Hardness:150–200 ppm
Arsenic:2–3.38 ppb
TTHMs:30–36 ppb
HAA5:24–27 ppb
PFAS detected (3 compounds). Lithium 20.9 ppb.

Towne Lake (MUD 500)

Chloramines

100% Surface Water — WHCRWA

Hardness:100–140 ppm
Arsenic:2.7 ppb
TTHMs:36 ppb
HAA5:27 ppb
Highest chloramine residual (3.22 ppm). Softest water.

These are representative samples. Cypress has 30+ MUDs. If your subdivision isn't listed, your water may be similar to the nearest system above — but we can't guarantee that. We test on-site before recommending any system.

Cypress is unincorporated Harris County — there's no "City of Cypress." Water service comes from your MUD, not a city utility. If you're not sure which MUD serves your address, check your water bill or ask us — we'll help you figure it out.
