Water Softener Installation in Humble, TX
Humble blends groundwater with Houston surface water — you get the hard water problems of the aquifer plus the chloramine and DBP issues of Lake Livingston. We fix both, starting at $2,965 installed.
"Our water was leaving white film on everything. They tested it and explained the whole groundwater/surface water situation. System works great — no more scale."

Humble's Water — The Blended Supply Problem
Humble doesn't have one water source — it has two. The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District requires communities in Harris and Montgomery counties to reduce groundwater pumping to slow land subsidence. The result: Humble and surrounding MUDs now blend approximately 70% groundwater from the Evangeline and Chicot Aquifers with 30% surface water from Houston's Lake Livingston supply.
That blend ratio isn't fixed — it shifts seasonally and during high-demand periods. Some days you're getting mostly groundwater. Other days, more surface water. This creates a unique treatment challenge.
From the groundwater side: hard water, naturally occurring arsenic, and trace minerals. From the surface water side: chloramines, disinfection byproducts (TTHMs and HAA5), and agricultural runoff contaminants like atrazine. Humble homes get both sets of problems simultaneously.
Water Quality Data — Humble Area
Source: ~70% Groundwater (Evangeline/Chicot) + ~30% Surface Water (Lake Livingston)
Disinfectant: Chloramines (requires catalytic carbon)
| Contaminant | Humble Level | EPA Limit | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hardness | 120-180 ppm | None (not regulated) | Hard — variable with blend |
| Chloramines | 2.5-3.5 ppm avg | 4 ppm | Requires catalytic carbon |
| TTHMs | 35-55 ppb | 80 ppb | Higher than groundwater-only |
| HAA5 | 25-40 ppb | 60 ppb | Surface water influence |
| Arsenic | 6.2 ppb | 10 ppb | 1,550× EWG guideline |
| Atrazine | 2.3 ppb | 3 ppb | 77% of EPA limit |
| PFAS (4 compounds) | Detected | 4 ppt (PFOA/PFOS) | Emerging contaminants |
| Lead (90th %) | 2.1 ppb | 15 ppb | Below action level |
What This Means for Your Home
- •Hardness varies with the blend. When more groundwater is in the mix, hardness spikes. When surface water dominates, hardness drops but DBPs rise. Either way, most Humble homes test 120-180 ppm — hard enough to scale fixtures and shorten water heater life.
- •Chloramines require catalytic carbon. Unlike Tomball (free chlorine), Humble's surface water influence means chloramines. Standard activated carbon doesn't break the chlorine-ammonia bond — you need catalytic carbon, which costs more but actually works.
- •Arsenic at 6.2 ppb is the highest in our service area. The EPA limit is 10 ppb, but the EWG health guideline is 0.004 ppb — putting Humble at 1,550× the EWG benchmark. A reverse osmosis system at the kitchen tap reduces arsenic by 95%+.
- •Atrazine at 2.3 ppb is 77% of the EPA limit. This herbicide runoff comes from the Lake Livingston watershed. It's one of the most common agricultural contaminants in Texas surface water. Catalytic carbon and RO both reduce atrazine levels.
- •PFAS compounds have been detected. Four "forever chemical" compounds were identified in testing — a direct result of surface water sourcing. The new EPA limit is 4 ppt for PFOA and PFOS. RO filtration removes 90%+ of PFAS.
- •DBPs are elevated compared to groundwater-only areas. TTHMs at 35-55 ppb and HAA5 at 25-40 ppb reflect Lake Livingston's higher organic matter content. Compare this to Tomball (TTHMs at 8 ppb) and you see the surface water difference.

Why Humble Homeowners Choose Us
We Understand Blended Water
Most companies treat Humble like a standard groundwater area. We know the surface water blend changes everything — different disinfectants, different contaminants, different solutions.
Honest About Costs
Chloramine areas cost more to treat properly — $3,850 vs $3,450 for free chlorine areas. We explain why rather than cutting corners with inadequate filtration.
We Service What We Sell
1-year warranty included. Optional maintenance agreements cover you for up to 20 years. Catalytic carbon needs periodic replacement — we handle it.
Same-Week Installation
No 2-4 week wait like the national brands. We schedule fast and show up on time.
Humble's blended water supply creates unique challenges — hardness from the aquifer, chloramines and DBPs from Lake Livingston. We test for both and design systems that address the actual water coming into your home.
